Disgusting

In the months before Jane was born, I mentally prepared myself to release some control over the state of my home. I have a little bit of compulsion when it comes to the cleanliness and overall state (including smell) of my house and I knew a baby would complicate things somewhat.
  • I was ready to not vacuum every day.
  • I was ready to have items strewn about the living room.
  • I was ready to give some compromise on my schedule of when I clean certain areas or when I run errands. (Yes, there were days of the week assigned to certain tasks -- I am what I am.)
  • I was ready for the diapers (in all forms).
  • I was ready for a certain level of smell to creep in, for which I procured extra Wallflowers and antibacterial wipes and sprays.

I have now learned I was nowhere near ready.

Why?

Because I've been going about -- trying (usually in vain) to get things done in a somewhat orderly and timely fashion -- and there is a smell that has been plaguing me. I've been on the hunt for this smell for some time. What was it? Moldy nursing pads. YES. Moldy nursing pads.

SICK. Is it just me? Does no one else encounter this? Why was I not warned? I have to throw them away, and I empty my trash cans often, but short of making a trip to the outside trash bin every single time, I don't know what to do.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Because there are only two words to describe this: na-sty.

Of course they are going to mold fast and furious ... warm, sweet milk in a dank trash can ... recipe for success! If it bothers you, put them in a bag each day, put that in the general trash and tell Lane to take it out at night. Or, put it in your nifty diaper pail. The smell can't be much worse there.

Maybe your breast milk is just pickled? J/K.
