Red Robin ... yum

(said like the song)
For the first time in more than a month, Lane and I went out in public to eat. I was super duper excited, as I have been pushing for this event for the past 2 weeks. (Lane kept meeting my inquires with "Jane doesn't want to go" or "Do you just want me to get takeout?" No.)

So the place to be was, of course, Red Robin. I readied for the big outing by feeding Jane at home, after which we made a hasty exit so as to not be in public when a crying, hungry baby awoke.

You see, this is my fear: Feeding the baby in public. Yikes. I have a cover-up and everything, but I still can't bring myself to do it. Sure a mother's lounge is great, but even that makes me a little wary after my first try. (Back story: First time in public with Jane, I am in a mother's lounge feeding her and some MAN I've never seen knocks on the door to ask me if he could change his baby in there. Umm, no. But of course I just nodded with big, scared wide eyes. He was very respectful though ... I kept an eagle's glare on him the whole time and he never turned around -- he even walked sideways out so as not to be toward me. STILL. First-time mom gets audience when feeding her baby in public for the first time: My personal nightmare.)

But our first date night back was a success. Jane slept the entire time. I tell you, she LOVES her car seat.

One time on my mission in Argentina, this 5-year old kids comes up to his mother and pops her jug out and breast feeds for a couple minutes before playing with her nipple. I finally had to ask her to put it away since it was distracting. Your Mom taught you right- how to be modest.

Have you ever considered pumping your breast milk? Then that way you can just whip out a bottle and feed her if you are in public. She'll still be getting your breast milk, but no one will even think twice about you feeding her a bottle. It worked great for me with taking Autumn out in public!

Suzanne would always try and go out in public for dinner and her baby would never cooperate. She would always end up in the car nursing. Her favorite hangout! haha!

totally agree with you on the whole breastfeeding in public thing. i can't even handle it in private if someone besides my tiny immediate family is around.

(stumbled upon your blog linked from someone... can't remember who. my husband and i went to high school with lane.)
