Uncle, Uncle

I concede.

After several requests from those who do not live near me (my entire social network, save one), I am buckling under pressure and posting a photo of me largely pregnant.

I mostly object because we are knee-deep in the rough days here. This is not said to elicit comments of reassurance or validation, so please, if you feel compelled, don't. It's said because it's a fact. I know it. Lane knows it. He just smiles now and tells me he loves me. It's a good response.

Oddly, this is a flattering angle. ("Flattering?" you say? Yes, truly, this is flattering -- on all counts.) But can you perhaps see why women tell me I look past due and old men at telling me I look "ripe"? Even my OB nurse, whom I absolutely adore, looked at me and said "Wow. You really are pregnant." And she sees pregnant women for a living.

Just a case in point, I tried to look at my feet yesterday while I was showering. I leaned so far, I quite literally started to topple.

Speaking of feet, if you remember, in my last pregnancy I constantly said I wasn't ready for Jane to come until I'd had my pedicure. The pre-Elliot pedicure is coming tomorrow. I go with my SIL, who quite rightly told me I could not give birth with black toes (my toenails are painted black, my toes aren't black). I responded by saying I simply could not give birth if my feet were in this state.

Then, perhaps, I'll be ready. I can always pack the labor bag as we walk out, right?

You don't want any sympathy or commiseration? How about I tell you I love you too. Good luck and quick dilation.

Okay, when you talked to me on the phone, I was picturing you as like 300 pounds. Steve and I both agree (he just said this to me as he looked at your photo) "She's darling!" Yes, you are. Now, I promise you, you will be happy that you took a photo. So there.

I'm so excited for this week!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!

Black toenails? That warms my heart. I'm glad that inside soccer-mom Rachel still lives a part of the punk music-listening, Hot Topic-wearing, goth-inspired Rachel of yesteryear.

P.S. I think Poe would be excellent birthing music.

I can't wait to wrap my arms around that tummy and give it a big kiss! I'll be there on wednesday. Are you sure that you want to have your pedicure before I get there? Do we have time to do it after I arrive? Remember, the tradition is that I treat so wait for me.

You should also get a massage while you are at it. There are some points on the body that can help you go into labor any good massage therapist should know these points. Plus a massage would feel good right about now for you. Ask Lane about how many massages I gave him? He would agree that you need one. Why not get a couples massage. Three more days but who's counting right?

Cute hair! I wish I could see it up close.

But lo, what voice is that which I hear? I will see you soon! Hurrah!

I can't believe how agile you are at holding Jane. I used taht excuse all the time with my kids. "Mommy is just too big to pick you up." Of course, when I was nursing babies I always told my other kids, I wasn't allowed to get up and help them until the bayb was done eating. Always a good thing and a little bit of a break.

What a beautiful belly! You look great!

Of course, this post is three days old--perhaps little Elliot is already here and the belly is gone!

I'm so excited for you guys, and I'm sending you all my positive thoughts for the birth and "fourth trimester".
