Melt

I almost died mowing the lawn today. Literally. And not because it was kill-me hot (although, almost for that reason too). No, because the crickets almost amassed and took me over.
Seriously. Every time I made a movement with the lawnmower there would be a ripple throughout the entire lawn and I'd see one or two crickets the size of small birds jump toward me.
I've never mowed the lawn so quickly.
Which was good and bad with the heat.
The thermometer is reading 98 today. Of course, the heat index says it's 105. I'm here to tell you it feels like 115. So I almost melted (I did lose a good 4 pounds from sweat).
Speaking of melting, we've been having a lot of that around this house lately.
The kids have been pushed to the limit. We haven't been going to the park much with the heat, I was sick with the flu last week and so we really haven't gotten out. Although the people at Target are again on a first-name basis with me (like last summer).
Also, Elliot has been switched to the one-nap routine. (It was time.)
But this means a lot more one-on-one time with he and Jane. Which means more sibling rivalry. Which means a lot more screaming and meltdowns, though the aspect of best friend siblings is something that melts my heart.
I've been having meltdowns too.
It doesn't help that I'm locked in too, but this one is more about Elliot's con-artist nature.
I know I sounded all cool and relaxed over the whole non-standing thing last week, but really, it stretches my sanity.
Luckily it has been discovered that Elliot progresses as I have meltdowns.
Four months ago, when I had a meltdown over the lack of crawling (at his 9-month appointment) he began crawling that day.
Tuesday, when I called my mom and then Lane crying over his Gumbi legs, he started standing.
Don't get me wrong: He still won't pull himself to a stand (at least, not for me, for his Dad, sure), but you put him at the table or hold his little hands and he'll stand there as long as you want.

I'm seriously considering working myself up over the non-walking.

(And because no photo of Elliot is complete without one of Jane):

such adorable pictures. . . and I can picture everything, right where they are. . .one of the great blessings of having been there. Can also relate to mowing the lawn, although no crickets on my watch. Is Jane challenging her Dad to puzzle skills? Cute picture of Lane too!

I had a friend that mowed her lawn 2 or 3 times a week as her work out. It did wonders with weight loss. Too hot for me though. I am seriously prone to dehydration. My oldest was 16 months before he walked if that helps at all. I used to bribe my kids to pull up on the couch by putting chocolate chips just out of reach in a line.
