More Mom-isms

I don't want to brag, (That's a lie. Yes I do.) but my pot roast totally rocks.

My mom always told me that you just have to know how to make really good gravy and really great frosting -- because you can cover almost anything with those. I don't know though, she put on like she wasn't that good of a cook and those two things (and her rolls) were maybe the only things she could make well, but I don't buy it. Mom's a cook. A good cook.

Regardless of her downplay, we always had pot roast, rolls, mashed potatoes and cake for Sunday dinner (which, really, reinforced her gravy/frosting myth).

So, thanks to Meat Mania at Kroger yesterday, I decided my family would have pot roast and all the trimmings today. Sadly, morning found me rummaging in my pantry cursing the heavens that I am trying to lose weight and thus do not have a cake mix (I usually keep cake and brownie mixes hidden in the back for emergencies). I could make it from scratch, but that only prolongs the guilt I'd feel from performing a non-diet task.

I'd take pictures of this marvelous meal on my marvelous (NEW!) table (it really is beautiful), but I can't download anything on my computer. Not photos. Not music. Nothing.

The memory is gone on my antique here (hint, hint, Lane). I've emptied it and cleaned off the hard drive, but it is no use. It is chalk-a-balk full of huge photos of my lovelies. And I ain't deleting those. So until there's a lovely new computer sitting in front of me (again, hint hint), you shall have to abide with posts photo-less.

"But Rachel," you say, "I only come to the blog to look at photos. I don't read your blather. I merely scroll through it to see how the children are aging and then X out of the window." (Or, really, would say if you were actually reading.)

I know.

But I keep writing photo-less posts to entice you back because you'll think the photo strike is over. If I keep you coming back, then you won't entirely give up on me. Which means that I won't give up on you -- thus becoming one of those MANY people on my blog list with the word "month(s)" by their recent blog posts (yes, another hint).

I think I'll go make chocolate cookies with white chips. Mmmm. Totally DA (diet-approved).

I still read your blog, but as good as it is, it's like reading a book without pictures. And...I WANT pictures. The End.

My mom acts like she can't cook either! What is up with that? She is a good cook too....she just doesn't want to do it. heh. We still have roast and mashed potatoes for Sunday dinner most Sundays we eat with my fam. But I usually bring the rolls......my rolls are the bomb dot com. :o) BTW I agree with my mom....PICTURES!!!

Rachel,
You know the secret of good icing is a pinch of salt. Learned that from MY Grandma Matis. Cuts the sweetness.
Love your blog w/pictures but also love reading your characteristic funniness.
