Fall is here. Hooray! My favorite season.
It's the weather that does it for me. I don't know why I don't live in a place that has a real Fall, but here I am and I still live it up like it's a real Fall.
It's the fact that Halloween is coming too. I love that holiday. Rivals Christmas, although it'd feel weird saying Christmas wasn't my favorite. So I'll say Christmas and Halloween tie. It's the chocolate. And the decorations. And the fact that I can wear my black nail polish and I get a lot fewer weird glances.
Fall is also Lane's birthday, which, ironically, is a bigger deal for me than it is for him (so he says).
Lane's been moping around the house for the past 3 months telling me how old he is. It reminds me of my friend Kallee. When we lived together (22 to 25ish) she would talk about how old she was all the time. Her birthday's coming too. The big 3-0. I'm going to get a copy of her favorite song that I'd play for her constantly -- They Might Be Giants "Older" -- one for her and one for Lane.
But I think Lane's just looking for an excuse to get out of yard work.
On Monday, he e-mailed these photos to me of his company picnic:
There's other action sequences and a large bruise on his knee. He played 6 games of volleyball in the sand. And I don't get the feeling he was walking around with his hand on his lower back complaining that he's just too old to do this.
But just for the fun of it, perhaps I'll give him Lt. Dan (my old cane from Cancun -- another story, another time) and demand he use it.

You left out of your post that in lieu of Gatorade, I was drinking Liquid Advil just to get through those games!
Whatever Lane! You are looking like you're smokin' them out there on the court. And don't say you're OLD because that makes my husband OLD too - so as I see it, you guys are looking pretty darn good for such "mature" men. Love the pics!!
At least I can take comfort in the fact that no matter how old I am, you'll always be just a little older! Now that dreadful song is stuck in my ahead again. Thanks a lot.
