Thanksgiving Day (the next day for those of you stuck trying to figure out the timeline), I flipped over to the heat. Why the sudden change of heart, you may ask? Because we barely skimmed a paltry 45 degrees Thursday, with our midnight hour killing all our Spring flowers with 27 degrees.
OK, I hear you: It's colder where you are living. Still, you must admit, a temperature difference of 35 degrees is pretty sudden. We felt shocked.
And so did our Oak tree. It gave us beautiful, vibrant red leaves these past 3 weeks. Thursday hit with its sudden freeze and this morning showed me a tree with a few dozen dead, brown leaves (the rest of my tree lay in my yard and my neighbors', as our tree is the only bare one on the block).
Lest you sit there fretting that my children and I missed the last vestige of Fall, take heart. We ventured to the Dallas Arboretum last Friday with my fabulous friends Sara and Tamara.
The kids enjoyed the weather (a perfect Fall day) and the scenery.

After a nice picnic and romp in dead leaves, we took in the rest of the park

before we made a hasty exit brought on by Jane's face-plant on some stone steps.
We still have peaceful memories of a peaceful place, in addition to the nose scraps and yellowish-green goose egg.

Fall is a wonderful time, but I can see it's even magical with children. Jane's pure joy at lifting and throwing leaves – priceless.
I also love that Arboretum. I recently saw pictures of it's fall exhibit, and it looks like a wonderland.
Never fear. Amid all this winter, something's still tinged green. (Me.)
