Time for the Gothic horse-race ribbon.
Who knew it was so popular in ghoulish and creepy-chic circles?
Day 2's assignment: "Check out Halloween books at the library."
Have you ever been to your library in the weeks prior to Halloween to check-out Halloween books? Their normally calk-a-balk full shelf of Halloween books is light to lonesome.
Ransacked. Dust bunnies floating in the breeze.
Luckily, I found one or two and then scoured the other shelves and found several about monsters ... all Halloweeny material.
And now my house is surprisingly clean, as the children have found a new interest in their library books and none whatsoever with the abundance of toys neatly organized on the bottom bookshelf.

While you talked about absent Halloween books, I couldn't help thinking of my favorite Halloween book from youth, one that is out of print but that I finally procured from a library somewhere, via Amazon: Best Witches, by Jane Yolen. Poems about mummies and ghosts and a witch called Flo with awesome pictures. It rocks.
Katie! That is so funny. Jane Yolen is my children's favorite author (if they had one). Here "How Do Dinosaurs" books are their absolute favorites. In fact, I just put them to bed to "How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You"
