It was the first Kings game Lane and I have been to this year. Lane loves his Kings and I have been indoctrinated into the culture, although I don't believe I am the superfan Lane would have me be yet. I refused to wear one of the three (yes, three) LA Kings jerseys that we own (for two people) because hockey jerseys are designed such that the big patch on the front flushes with the biggest part of the body ... mine being my belly. I felt like one large blob in the jersey. I did wear a hat. And I cheered. I even got hazed by the San Jose Sharks mascot towards the end of the game when it was obvious the Sharks couldn't pull themselves out of the mire. (I'm trying to redeem myself ... my father-in-law says I'm facing disciplinary action for my failure to support the Kings with a jersey at an away game.)
The saddest part of the game? The refs broke up three promising fights. I was sad. I'm not a violent person, but it's so fun to see your team pummel another in the name of hockey ... you have to be there to understand.
Jane seemed to be enjoying herself the entire time ... she barely stopped kicking during the two and a half hour game. I don't think she liked my nachos, however.
So here's Lane and I at the game. We're almost physically incapable of taking one decent photo together ... I always close my eyes right at the moment of photo and Lane inevitably starts to make fun of me. So here's one of our better ones from the night (BOTH wearing hats and Lane in a jersey):
