So, we went back down to Southern California for Thanksgiving, but tragically there are no photos. I took my camera, but I've come to the realization that I only feel comfortable subjugating Lane to my latest photo-taking frenzy.
Here are a few highlights from our four-day trip:
Turkey Day
- My mother-in-law made amazing stuffing for Thanksgiving. I think it had apples and cranberries in it? Whatever it was, I LOVED it.
Soccer
- My in-laws decided to play a friendly game of soccer with some of their neighbors. When we showed up (I obviously watched), the opposing team looked far more serious in their apparel than I expected (I suppose they really enjoy soccer). They seemed to match ... which made me laugh (on the inside, of course). And then there was Lane in his Laker shorts that he wears to bed. Awesome.
- Every two seconds of the first half, the phrases "nice" and "Go D" rang out through the cultural hall. Unfortunately, after I surreptitiously pointed this out during half time, the phrases stopped.
- Sure my family fell behind in the beginning, but after Ryan's five-point goal (he kicked the soccer ball through the raised basketball hoop), they met victory ... even after one or two points mysteriously disappeared from their score.
Cougar football
- The morning the Cougars played the Utes started with beignets, which has quickly become one of my favorite breakfasts since joining Lane's family. They are this doughnut thing with powdered sugar. Yum.
- I'm not a football fan, but I did enjoy the game (I only watched the first half). Mostly I enjoyed it for the nachos made by Lane and his brother. I also enjoyed the fact that you could hear the Cougar Fight Song ringing throughout the house whenever any kind of scoring occurred.
I realize most of these highlights are food related, but what can I say? I am who I am and I love food. Plus, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law did a really good job of keeping the good food coming. But better than the food was the time I got to spend talking to my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Now we're gearing up for Christmas -- my favorite holiday. And I'm going to try to break out of my photo shyness for this season.
