Excused Absence

Lane's grandma died last week, so we've been in Southern California to be with family and to attend the funeral.

Having no real interaction with Grandma Dixie (she had been pretty ill since I joined the family), a highlight of my week was helping Lane's sisters put together a memorial book for family and others who attended the funeral. Kate and Lael, with the talent of Lael's husband, Scott, (who designed the whole thing), put together a fabulous little memorial book. I just enjoyed going through the old photos and letters for information-gathering purposes.

Here we all are binding the memorial books.

I learned a lot about Lane's grandma and it is a joy and comfort that our faith lets us know that families can be together forever. Because, let's be honest, anyone who's famous for her chocolate chip cookies is someone I'd want to be around.

Jane and I in our unintentionall matching outfits at the funeral service.

Despite the sad circumstances that brought everyone together, it really was nice to spend an entire week with family. It's the longest Jane has been with any of them and she certainly soaked up all the lovin' she got from aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. She was in attention-hog glory. She ate it up.

Jane with her older cousin Alec ... Jane's interaction skill was more basic than his.

Tragically, she's back to boring mom every day, basically all day. Such is life.
