Cotton and Leather

Two years ago today, Lane and I promised to be together for all time and eternity. (In case the title has you befuddled, cotton is the traditional 2-year gift and leather is the modern gift.)

I couldn't have asked for a better companion to be by my side and to raise children with. He teases me endlessly and puts up with my neurosis. Sometimes he knows me better than I know myself (or what I like to admit to myself). He keeps me laughing and is the one person I can rely on at any time. How blessed I feel to know someone loves me as much as he does. (I know ... it's sappy, but give me a break, it is my anniversary, after all.)

Some of my favorite memories:

When he brought me home wild flowers one random Tuesday evening • Les Miserables and Outback's Chocolate Thunder from Down Under with the ice cream rolled in coconut on my 24th birthday • Curling up on the futon together to watch the entire first season of Lost • The UHaul trip from Orange County to Texas (during our honeymoon) • Taking my hand and sitting silently with me right before we were married • All the times he's brought me home Jack in the Box's Oreo Shake when my day has been rough • Disneyland • Lunch together when we worked right by each other in Texas • All the times a song has inspired him and he takes me by the hand to dance with me in the hallway • Watching him with our baby when he first wakes up in the morning

I think I've commented before about the Oreo cookie shakes. We were down in St. George this last week where there is access to the only Utah Jack in the Box. We were craving shakes and so I excitedly recommended Jack in the Box to my virgin-JITB husband. We sat in the drive thru line at 10pm and finally got up to order. The shake machine was closed for cleaning for the night. Who closes the shake machine at the peak shake-buying time?!? Jack in the Box, you must do better. Anyway, sounds like you picked a winner!!! I'm so happy for you guys!
