The Panic

I know you've all had a similar feeling: You're peacefully asleep, you start to wake up without any prompting and suddenly it hits: The Panic.

Why did your alarm not go off? Or, if you're a stay-at-home mother, why are none of your kids crying?

This morning, I awoke with my face toward my drawn blinds. I awoke without any screaming or talking coming across the baby monitor.

"Odd," I thought. For a brief second, I thought it was earlier than 7 a.m. But Lane was gone. And a bright sunny day was creeping through my blinds. I glance at the clock: 10 a.m.

Then I had the surge of adrenaline and all negative thoughts swarmed my head: My children have been taken or they've suffocated under their blankets. No way they've slept from 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. No way.

I ran to Jane's room and flung open the door.

She was awake, lounging on her bed, just waiting for me to come get her.

I grabbed her and went to open Elliot's door.

He was sound asleep in his crib. He slept until 10:30 a.m.

I guess we're all sleeping off our colds.

I know the feeling. Landon took a 4 hour nap yesterday and slept 12 hours last night. Which both things are not common. I even posed the question on facebook if I should check on him. Low and behold he was just tired. But, it sure is a scary feeling.

That is so true! Even when Lydia comes close to sleeping through the night I still wake up in a panic every few hours wondering why she hasn't started crying yet. I think people should celebrate not only when their kids start sleeping through the night but when they are also able to relax enough to join them in doing so :)
