The Tenth Day

After all the modifications and creative ways I've had to find to fulfill some of the Fall-esque activities from our calendar, I have to say, I believe there is only one activity I am going to permanently change on our countdown.

And that is today's activity: Pick out pumpkins.

Not because I don't want to pick out pumpkins, but because we already do that when we go on our hayride at the pumpkin farm.

Earlier in the week, I began to look around for something Halloweeny/pumpkinish we could do for today.

I had two options and Lane made the decision (since he was off due to the fact that his father is in town): We would go to the zoo.

It was between that or visiting the Arboretum, which has a pumpkin village up at the moment.

I have to say, it was a ton of fun.

Granted, we go to the zoo about once every three weeks.

But today the zoo was decked out in Halloween decor and pumpkins. Spooky noises played in the tunnel as you passed over into the African region. And the carousel played Halloween music (such as "Monster Mash") as it went around (it even goes backwards in the evening).

Poor Elliot. He was so terrified that the second time (of four) that we passed through the tunnel he ran screaming for his life. I thought he was having fun until I noticed the splotches on his forehead that come with hard crying.
Of course, one photo with the kids in the spooky tunnel (thus Elliot's anguished look) and my camera died from lack of battery power. Curses! No forewarning.

Still, I believe this day shall forever be changed from "pick out pumpkins" to "visit Dallas Zoo or Arboretum". Because heaven knows we're going to put it into our Fall routine anyway.
