Party Time

Today I made my foray into the world of the friend birthday party.

Seeing as Jane will be 4 on Saturday, I convinced Lane that a small party with 4 friends (and her brother) would excite our little girl to no end.

I was right.

I decided on a party during preschool hours and simply had her preschool friends (and cousin) come.

She walked down this morning (clad in her Aurora dress ... for it was a "Princess Party with pink and purple", of course) to find a dozen latex helium balloons.

You'd think I just gave her the key to the city.

There was some slight confusion when we weren't having donuts for breakfast (typical Birthday Breakfast fare ... "I told Elliot we were having donuts this morning.") and I had to remind her that today isn't her birthday.

"Alright. But donuts on Saturday," she firmly declared.

As her friends walked in, Jane happily gave them each their crown.

Close-up of Jane's crown, which had a different fabric on the reversible side than her friends'.
We then made sceptres, which were quickly dubbed wands by all the princesses in attendance and then attempted a game of pin the crown on the princess (the blindfold did not go over well with the preschool crowd).
The sceptres, aka wands
After some serious playtime, it was by Royal Decree that we all watch a princess movie during our pizza and princess cupcakes.
Only a little more than 1 hour into a 2-hour party and they all looked stoned. How do you do longer parties with children this young?
How could I refuse?

In the end: Success. Only one minor meltdown from over stimulation.

And now onto naps. For everyone.

This sounds like a great party. Wish I had been there. Can't wait to see your children in a few months. Love the pictures of those two darling little children. You are becoming quite the seamstress.
