#1 Hits

George Strait is right up there with Cher, Neil and Simon and the Garfunk for me. Fifty-six #1 hits can't be wrong.

I mention this because his latest, #56, played a part in the best moment of our family trip (for me). There's his song, "I Saw God Today" (about a dad seeing God in the little things and in particular the birth of his daughter) playing as we were driving home. I glance in my rear view mirror to check on Jane and Lane asleep in the back. There I see Lane resting his head on Jane's car seat just watching her sleep. Maybe it's the hormones (or perhaps it's been too long to still use that excuse), but I got all teary eyed.

We had other fabulous and great moments. Here were a few:
  • Watching Katie make the big walk of college graduation. Dave graduated too, but kicked it with us non-walkers in the bleachers.

  • Introducing Jane to a few of her great-grandparents.

  • Part deux of Easter: Grandma's famous Easter egg hunt, just a few weeks late (which worked out great for me since I don't live in Utah).

  • Spending a lot of great time with Kate, Tyler, Trevor and Austin ... including a rather riveting game of Guesstures, eating at Kneaders and one major diaper blowout (not all occurring at the same time).

  • Unforgettable creme puffs at my aunt's house.

  • Spending some great quality time with Julia, who introduced Jane to her new favorite song (this is actually Julia singing the song to Jane).

  • Going to my favorite eating haunts with the best and fabulous friends: Cafe Rio with Kallee and Pizza Factory with Jenn and Angie.
  • Hearing Jane really laugh, not just giggle.

  • Visiting with our great friends Rachel and Brian and their kids ... keeping them up WAY past bedtime.

  • Having Jane really begin to watch Lane and my every movement. She'll hardly take her eyes from us now, which I am loving. (Here she is lovingly watching her mommy as she sings off key.)
