Last week, Dr. C expressed concern that Jane still won't pull herself to a stand. He just gave a compulsive woman something solid to focus on.
So we do a check: strong legs (check); strong body (check); hips in place (check); stubborn will (check).
Lane and I decide to really hit the exercises hard (it's the only game we play now) and I decide that she just might need a little encouragement.
So I started placing the ever-mysterious chocolate chip in progressive positions on our coffee table.
She is now proficient at getting to her knees.
Tragically, when it comes time to actually ascend higher than a kneel, Jane turns with her pouty face and, reaping no results with this method, begins to scoot away.
I've removed all toys and possible play things in an effort to focus her energy on the lone num-num sitting on the table.
But she has a will of iron. Anything can be her entertainment.

Still, in today's bright morning sun, my heart took courage: I saw her little foot sneak up under her.

It will be okay. Some kids need to do everything on their own time frame. I wonder where her stubborn streak came from.....hmmmmmm....anyone we know.......? Couldn't be her mother!
Well Jane will soon have a girlfriend to play with, Trev and I are havin a girl!
That's hilarious. Leave it to the Olsens to mold their will toward the attainment of chocolate . . .
I am in agreement with Katie. I also note the iron will of Rachel. Give her a challenge, any challenge and she will find a way. It is encouraging to see the early progress. However, given Jane's iron will and yours it will be an interesting nip and tuck I'm sure for the next few weeks. And as Becky said, to each child their own. Mayber chocolate graham crackers, peppermint bark, etc? Thanks for the post.
Can't wait to see this little Jane in action. . .this is hilarious. . .between the brilliant minds of Jane's mom and dad, surely there will be success. Jane's father was just the opposite, trying to rescue him from crawling up and out every window, tree, door. . .just the avid 'get me out of here' child. . .Jane is so photogenic . . .love hearing of the cousins and daughters together.
What a great strategy with the chocolate chip. I'll have to remember that one when Gavin gets to this age (though I'll probably end up eating all the chocolate chips myself)!
