Silver and Gold

True story: My weekly Baby Center e-mails inform me that my 19-month-old mimics my friend-making skills as she attempts to become more social.
All I could think was: Poor Jane. If this is true, she has no hope for friends. Because it is a widely known and circulated fact that I am semi anti-social. Really, I am a better version than years past. I used to be so much worse.
However, I must have done something right somewhere.
My fabulous friend Hillary not only flew out from the Bay Area to visit me, she also made the 3 1/2 hour flight with her two children -- ages 2 1/2 and 10 months. How wonderful is she?
I met Hillary in another lifetime, when I was a reporter in St. George. Our friendship has survived through the years -- marriages, moves, children -- largely due to her diligence and loving nature. And I love her.
She spent the first part of her trip visiting family and the last 2 days here with me.
While it was the end of a long week for Hillary, we had so much fun with her. Jane was beside herself with grief as we drove away from her Sarah friend.
We spent the rainy weekend playing in the house
and watching A TON of Disney princess movies. (Somewhere in there we joined other LDS faithfuls and tried to watch General Conference, but I don't have to tell you how well that went over with 4 children under 2 1/2 in one house.)

Luckily, today was clear, albeit very cold, so we headed to the park for the funnest park day in recorded history.

Finally, a shot of Hillary's and my weekend view:

the back of our daughters. (Can you see Jane's wet pants? Or that small hot pink blip in the distance? That's Sarah.)

how fun to spend time with a friend and realize the process for her to arrive. . .those are great memories for you and looks like the girls had a wonderful time together. . .it's very much like our friends Pat and Carla in St. George as we reflect on the years and all of those "little things" through the years that have contributed to such an endearing and enduring friendship. . .glad you were able to share together. . .how was the company casserole?

We're excited to come spend our time visiting our Texas family. Kelsey won't be much for park time, but glad to see Jane is up enjoying being a big girl. Marriage and moving definitely pose their challenges for maintaining friendships. Glad you have good friends - it's always fun to be reminded of yesteryear when we lived as our alternate personalities!

I'm so jealous. I hope it can be my turn to visit soon. And by the way, you totally underestimate yourself in the friend-making department; you are good at not only making but also keeping friends.
