Like Curious George

Jane has this thing for Curious George.

Everything that curious little monkey does, Jane wants to do too. As you can imagine, she has several Curious George books and they are the most consistently popular of the books read in this house.

One of the stories talks about the time George went camping with his friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat.

You can draw the natural conclusion: Jane has been a broken record of asking to go camping.

This has been going on for quite some time now -- I'm talking a time frame of about 12 months.

So, when our church announced the Daddy/Daughter Campout scheduled for this past weekend, Lane asked me timidly if he might be able to take Jane on the campout.

I had to laugh at his hesitance to ask. Would I really mind if he wants to take a 3-year-old camping?

No. No, I did not.

So off they went.

Jane was deliriously happy.

I don't know how much she did in helping construct the tent, but to hear her tell it, she did the whole thing alone.

I knew the campout treat that night was going to be cobbler and, knowing Jane would want smores like Curious George, I went and bought the little treat as a surprise for my campers.

For a camping trip that lasted about 14 hours, it apparently went perfectly.

Jane's talked of nothing else this weekend. Which makes me laugh, since, apparently, she approached her Daddy right before things really started going (about 8:30 p.m.) and told him she wanted to put on her pajamas. And then when all the other children woke up with the sun, Lane had to drag Jane out of the tent at breakfast's last call.

This tent is a 3 or 4 man tent. Do you see the bundle of sleeping bag off to the right of Jane in the photo? That's the space Lane was left to sleep in all night. Jane commandeered both pillows and the entire space of the tent. That's my girl.

Now she talks about a trip with Daddy, herself, Elliot and Mommy. Yikes.

How fun! I wonder if that's something Dan would dare to do!

Wow. That man has no fear (nor does that girl). I think Dave would have to muster everything in his being to take one of our children camping, seeing as he hates it even more than I do. (Although, if I could feel as cozy as Jane looks in that picture, I might be able to get over my reticence.)

Extra points to you if you can do it.

How adorable! I love the idea of a daddy/daughter camping trip! Not sure how Derek would feel about it...
