Decking the Halls

We're pretty psyched for Halloween in our house.

Best onsie ever. Thanks, Katie!

Truth be told, we've been prepared since October 1. I can't lie, Halloween is kinda a big deal here.

We decked the house in its typical-Halloween splendor

Jane had a unit on spiders in preschool and now anytime anyone loiters for more than 3 seconds by the buffet, she educates them on a "very poisonous spider that has a red mark. You DON'T want to bother it."

Rats scurrying up the staircase. Thank you Martha Stewart. In their second year, the kids still L.O.V.E. these ... as due all the visitors who walk through the door.

Pottery Barn knock-off. Not as cute, but not as pricey. They aren't as scary to this kids in their second year.

Dieting during the holidays is either wickedly brilliant or the stupidest thing I've ever done. I hadn't made cookies in more than a month, then holidays hit with October 1 and this is the second batch.
with some new dudes for the front door.

Truth? These Night Watchers (aka owls ... thank you, again Martha) are pretty fierce in the dark. When the light is on in the house and there is a faint glow coming through the eye holes, it can be slightly frightening. Lane (who knew they were there) even tripped over the dog in fright the other night. Wreath idea I found online here.
This Halloween I have learned an important truth about my children: They do not scare easily.

My son, holding the DVD case while he watches "Monster House" with his sister yesterday for the 5,000th time this month. As I type, they are watching it for the 5,002nd time.

I was fairly nervous buying them "Monster House" as it's a little bit edgier of child movie. But they love it (obviously).

And, OF COURSE, we have the Halloween advent calendar up. We're just excited this year as the past two. Best investment of time and money E.V.E.R. I really should make a Christmas one too ...

This year, sadly, I'm replacing a few activities. Some are just too Fall for our Dallas climate. It makes me sad, but something like "visit an apple orchard" just serves to remind me that I am not living my dream in some Colonial house in Vermont.

Yay! I love the onesie. You know it glows in the dark, right?

I need to up my game. As much as I love Halloween, I have yet to decorate. Perhaps it's because I'm not totally hot on any of my Halloween decorations (except for the awesome wreath from Mom, which is really more fall-ish), and I haven't been able to figure out which way I want to go with the decorations. I want to make that advent, though. So cool.

Oh man Owen is such a cutie pie!! And your advent calendar rocks, along with your other incredible decorations - you've inspired me to go big or go home this Halloween. I am so not a decoration fan but our boys are so amped for monsters and ghosts...kinda hard to resist. I'm thinking I want the recipe to whatever deliciousness is sitting in your pumpkin jar. I am the queen of ruining cookies. Seriously, cursed. But yours look super yummy.
