Pumpkin Fest 2012

Illness almost destroyed Day 6.

Wednesday was to be our trip to the Arboretum to visit the pumpkin village in celebration of our love of pumpkins day.

There is something about skeleton key that just yells Halloween to me.
However, with three children either sick or on the mend, I thought it not the best idea to drive 45 minutes to pay $30+ only to walk around for the next 3 hours.

On the spur of the moment, I opted for Pumpkin Fest.

I whipped up a pie crust in the morning,

Wednesday was Elliot's turn for a fever. So, while he napped, Jane was my big helper. She doesn't look it (because she's concentrating), but she was over the moon to be doing the fluting on the pie crust.

and ventured to our new Trader Joe's with the kids for more pumpkin culinary supplies (I knew TJ's would deliver!).
The tiny pumpkins were a huge hit with the kids. Sixty cents. Totally worth it! And that pumpkin butter? You can make it into soup (which I did). It tastes like candy ... literally.

The day ended with a wonderful pumpkin feast of pumpkin pie, pumpkin pancakes and pumpkin soup.

I have to say, I was fairly impressed with how my emergency day ended up. It might have to become a regular-rotation day!
